In this day and age, quality parent-child bonding time is scarce. Besides busy schedules and hectic lives, parents are contending with technology and social media for their children’s attention. How can we spend quality time with our kids, and also nurture them in Christ?

NextGen Ministry is pleased to present Come Play with Me!—an art therapy workshop which aims to provide a space for parents and children to bond over art!

At this event you and your child can:

  • Have the opportunity to create a piece of artwork together, and
  • In the process, get to know each other better!

What is this event/workshop about?
Come Play with Me! is an art therapy workshop organised by NextGen Ministry and EAS, in collaboration with Arting Hearts. The workshop involves parents and children working together to create an artwork, and through it, spend time bonding and getting to know each other better.
What can we take home from this?
This workshop is designed to foster stronger bonds between parent and child through creative play. During the workshop, we will be sharing some tips about bolstering your child’s self-esteem, as well as ways to help build their faith. Also, you get to keep the beautiful artworks you make with your children!
Who can participate?
This workshop is suitable for parents, and children ages 6-12.
How many children can I sign up with me?
There is no limit, but we recommend a parent-child ratio of 1:1 or 1:2, depending on the age of the children.
Do I need to buy art materials?
We will be making use of the regular art materials found at home, such as markers, paints, and paper! Please prepare these before the start of the event.
There is no need to buy extra art materials, but feel free to do so if you’d like!
Is the art going to be difficult?
Don’t be stressed about creating a great piece of art! The focus is on the process, and not how the final artwork looks like. It is not about developing technical skills in drawing or painting, but about expressing and connecting with your child through art (in a more holistic manner). So, it is more important for you and your child to focus on the time spent together!
What is Arting Hearts?
Arting Hearts is a social enterprise that provides evidence-based art experiences for people of all ages, with or without any form of arts background. Founded by Veon, it provides clinical art therapy for emotional and mental health,as well as arts-based activities that focus on play and general wellness for both groups and individuals.You may find out more about them at artinghearts.sg.

Veon

Veon

Veon runs Arting Hearts, a Christ-centred social enterprise that focuses on wellness and self-care, empowering individuals

and groups through attuned facilitation during the art making process. She has worked alongside families and children of

incarcerated parents, patients facing imminent end-of-life, as well as youth and young adults who seek mental wellness.

Veon's work has been recognised internationally, at Art Therapy conferences in the US and UK. Most recently, her research

work on the legacy gift of reconciliation was accepted for the 50th AATA conference.

Shulian

Shulian

Shulian worked as a school counsellor for local schools, providing counselling services for students and case management

for school key stakeholders and parents. As part of the programme requirement, Shulian interned as an art therapist at

voluntary welfare organisations, working with young persons living with chronic illnesses and their caregivers by providing

emotional support through their creative art-making. Shulian also provided art therapy services on a project basis for

different communities such as stroke survivors, older adults, and at-risk adolescents.
